SALT LAKE CITY — There was a major outpouring of love and support for the family of a Utah dance teacher who was killed in a car accident Monday.
Lisa Stoddard, 45, died Monday morning at a local hospital from injuries suffered in the accident.
“She was loved by everyone,” said Krystal Sorensen, Stoddard’s younger sister. “She just had this motherly touch about her.”
Sorensen said Stoddard was the glue of the family.
“She was the oldest in our family, so she held us all together,” she said.
That love and influence spread to more than her family. Stoddard used dance — one of her many gifts — to touch others.
“She influenced not just close family members and friends, but students all over,” Sorensen said.
And that’s why Stoddard was on the road that morning — to be with her students. She was traveling to the airport to fly to New York City to support her BYU students in their Senior Dance Showcase.
Stoddard spent the last 21 years teaching dance, but her favorite student was her 16-year-old daughter.
“Her oldest daughter is an amazing dancer and one of her first questions was, ‘Will I still be able to dance?’“ Sorensen said.
If you could just describe or look up in a dictionary a perfect mother, that's what she was.

Stoddard is the mother of four children — the oldest is 16 and the youngest will turn 8 in a few days.
“If you could just describe or look up in a dictionary a perfect mother, that’s what she was,” Sorensen said. “Even to me and my children she had this way of loving and making you feel loved.”
According to Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Joe Dougherty, Stoddard spun her vehicle on northbound I-215 around 4 a.m. and hit a road barrier. Dougherty said Stoddard's vehicle was later hit by man driving a Mitsubishi Galant, who spun out in the same area before hitting Stoddard's vehicle.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the roads were wet at the time of the accident.
Stoddard’s brothers have set up a website* to help offer support to Stoddard’s family.

Our hearts go out to the Stoddards in this terrible time.we have known Lisa and Troy for twenty years and there aren't nicer and more loving people. Lisa is one of those rare people who are always kind and who you are always happy to see, and who always had a smile on her face.

She is a great example to all the people who know her. Our prayers are with you as you endure this terrible loss of a great wife and mother.

What a sad story to start the morning. My thoughts and prayer go out to this family. Wish I knew what I might do for the youngest of her children, having a birthday in just a few days. Sad for the whole family, and all her friends and students too. Makes me want to be just a bit nicer to everyone I know, for you never know when you might get the some very sad news about someone you love.

Pictures with Lisa

We were the best of friends in high school, college, and the years that followed. We were together every Friday night and knew everything about each other. We danced together, laughed together and grew up together. I can honestly say that Lisa was one of the kindest people I have ever known. I never saw her angry and I don't remember an unkind word ever coming out of her mouth. She was quick to think of others and oh so fun to be friends with. I loved her and I will miss her so much. My prayers and thoughts go out to her family and may our Savior comfort them.

The Dance Club

Shannon Harper ZobristIt's no wonder Lisa Stoddard has touched so many lives... I add my small tribute to many previously written. She was a dear friend and one of the most influential people at a turning point in my life. We were roomates and quickly became best of friends. We had so much fun spending every minute we could together...decorating & splashing paint all over our different apartments, sharing clothes, taking spur of the moment trips, shopping at the swap meet, singing at the top of our lungs, having "beauty" night, being pet owners(and failing miserably), dancing, laughing, & many times staying up all night talking. Lisa had a strong testimony of the gospel and she lived it to the fullest every day. She was always kind, loving, compassionate, & caring to everyone she met. Troy...know that she loved you from the minute she met you. You were her world, and always made her so happy. I never minded being the 3rd wheel in your relationship! I am a better person for knowing Lisa and will be forever grateful our paths crossed so many years ago. I know her good works are continuing on in Heaven.

My heart breaks for Lisa Stoddard’s family. Lisa was an incredible woman who impacted so many lives. I was blessed to have the opportunity to dance for Lisa atUVU. I learned so much from Lisa on and off of the dance floor. She was such a fun, caring, and positive influence in my life. I will forever be grateful for you Lisa!

Through all the tears and the sadness I can't help but smile as I think about the impact Lisa Stoddard has had and will continue to have on my life. Lisa was the funniest, sweetest, most caring person I have ever met. I couldn't thank her enough for all of the love, support and laughter she has given me throughout my entire life. She made me believe in myself as a person and as a dancer, and for that, I couldn't thank her enough. Love you Lisa dawg. May angels lead you in! My thoughts and prayers are with the sweet Stoddard family at this time.. #danceforlisa

Until we meet again...

Hello BYU, UVSC and Dance Club almuni and friends.  I am saddened to even have have a page like this to celebrate the life of the wonderful Lisa Stoddard.  She was very influential to me in my college years and was a good friend, wonderful mother, dance teacher, choreographer and on and on.

If you could leave a comment with a memory or two or send me your favorite photo/video with you and Lisa to erin.prettyeasy@gmail.com I would like to put together something to send to her family.  She has touched many lives and I think they would enjoy seeing and reading about their wonderful daughter/wife/mother eventually.

Please leave your memories, etc. in the comments below.  Feel free to pass this along to anyone who would like to participate.

xoxo,
Erin
